Cirkol is a real-time virtual workout utilizing a user’s phone camera for interactive sessions. Gamified workouts maintain user motivation, while AI technology tracks progress, offering personalized feedback to achieve fitness goals.
The project was born out of the need for better remote fitness solutions. Existing options lacked social interaction, personalization, and convenience. We aimed to create a more effective, accessible approach that addresses these challenges.
Using lean UX and co-design, we mapped out MVPs based on desk research. I developed the initial information architecture, user flow, and wireframes, collaborating with a visual designer and a Unity engineering contractor. We then refined the features with input from a fitness coach and user testing, leading to the development of Cirkol’s second version.
One of our core values for users was delivering an initiative boost at nearly zero cost. We focused on leveraging existing sensors—such as phones, wearables, and TVs. By narrowing down the essential features and fostering close collaboration between designers and engineers, we crafted a streamlined experience that includes account creation, a homepage for class access, and an interactive class mode.
After extensive user testing of the initial PoC and interviews with professional coaches, we identified a need for more accurate tracking within the system. Users felt disconnected from the avatar and the immersive experience due to poor synchronization on the screen. These findings led to a pivotal shift in the project scope:
We pivoted to integrate the camera sensor as the core tracking system and expanded the ecosystem to include phone-based experiences. To enhance the product, we introduced an AI Coach that monitors individual performance and provides real-time verbal feedback to improve user posture.
