Challenge

The project lead sought my help to steer the project in the right direction. My responsibility included providing a fresh perspective on existing ideas and ensuring the project progressed with a high-quality design outcome.

Contribution

I guided the team in narrowing down to three key functions by providing visual prototypes that demonstrated interactions. This helped the team understand the pros and cons of each option and finalize the features to include. Once the decision was made, I helped define the tone and style with visual assets.

Oscillation Interaction

Sometimes, the product’s form inspires new interactions. The unique taco shape introduces oscillation, creating a playful way to switch content or modes. To make After Life an ambient device—like a clock or picture frame—we used this back-and-forth movement to control the content.

Three Modes

After Life features three distinct modes, each controlled through oscillation interaction, allowing seamless content navigation.

  • Endless Clock – A simple timepiece that randomly displays endless typeface options.
  • Timeline – The top of the taco shape functions as a timeline, allowing users to turn a knob to select and display photos from specific dates.
  • Moment – In idle mode, abstract art is displayed; stretching the taco shape to its full range reveals the photo that inspired the art.
